Mauro Lanza

(10 March 1975 — )

Mauro Lanza was born in Venice and completed his studies (piano, harmony and counterpoint) at the Conservatorio B. Marcello of his home city. He was then selected by the comité de lecture of the Ensemble Intercontemporain and Ircam to take part in the “Course of composition and musical informatics” for the academic year 1998-99. Subsequently he has worked at Ircam as “composer in research” and teacher, active above all in the field of synthesis using physical models and computer-assisted composition.

His music has been performed during the concert seasons of Ircam, the Festival Présences (Radio France), the Venice Biennale, the Musica festival of Strasbourg, the Gaudeamus Music Week of Amsterdam, the Montréal Nouvelle Musique festival, and the Europäische Musikmonat of Basel. The performers with whom he has closely collaborated include the Ensemble Court-Circuit conducted by P.A. Valade, the Ensemble Alternance, the United Berlin Ensemble, the Ensemble l’Itinéraire, the Divertimento Ensemble, the Accentus Chamber Choir, the Jeune Chœur de Paris conducted by Laurence Equilbey and Denis Comtet, musikFabrik, the Neue Vocalsolisten and Les Percussions de Strasbourg, as well as Donatienne Michel-Dansac, Francesco Filidei, Vincent David, David Zambon, Pierre-Stéphane Meugé, Robert HP Platz and Denys Bouliane. In 2002 and 2004 three concerts were dedicated exclusively to his music by Ircam and the festival Archipel of Geneva.

In 2005 he composed the original music for the ballet Le songe de Médée of Angelin Preljocaj, a commission of the Paris Opera and Ircam. In 2004-2005 he was appointed guest professor of composition at McGill University (Montréal). Since 2004 he has taught “computer-assisted” in the courses on music and new technologies at the Conservatorio of Cuneo. His collaboration with Paolo Pachini was the object of a creation residence at the Fresnoy in 2005-2006 during which was born the project of Descrizione del Diluvio (world premiered on 14th March 2008), expressly composed for the Neue Vocalsolisten and Les Percussions de Strasbourg. He was in residence at the Civitella Ranieri Center in June/July 2006 and a guest of the French Academy in Rome at the Villa Medici until October 2008 and at the Akademie Schloss Solitude from October 2009 to July 2010.  His works have been published by Casa Ricordi since 2004.
