Marco Momi studied piano and chamber music with Antonio Ballista and composition with Fabio Cifariello Ciardi (Conservatoire of Perugia) and graduated both with highest honors (2001- 2006). He obtained a second degree avec mention in composition in 2006 (Conservatoire of Strasbourg) and a full marks degree in 2009 (Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome) under the guide of Ivan Fedele. In 2005 he studied at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, in 2007-2008, 2009-2010 at IRCAM in Paris (with Yan Maresz) and in 2002 , 2006 and 2008 in Darmstadt. From 1999 to 2003 he studied orchestral conducting with Ennio Nicotra.
Since he started to study composition in 2001, he won several scholarships and was shortlisted and prize-winner in: “VII Youth International Music Forum” (2001 Kiev), “What’s Next- Nuova Consonanza” (2003 Rome), “Evangelisti Competition” (2004 Rome), “III Seoul International Competition” (2005 Seoul), “Lili Boulanger Memorial Fund” (2005 Boston), “Rodio European Competition” (2006 Bari), “STIPENDIENPREIS” (2006 Darmstadt), “Gaudeamus International Music Prize” (Honourable Mention, 2006 Amsterdam), “International Alkmaar Organcommission” (Alkmaar 2006),”Call-CEMAT 07” (2007 Rome), “IRCAM Reading Panel 2007” (Paris); in 2008 he won the Kranichsteiner Music Prise in Darmstadt and in 2009 the “IRCAM Reading Panel” (Paris). In 2010 he was composer in residence at the Akademie der Künste Berlin, in 2012 in Banna Spinola Foundation (Turin) and in 2013 during the season concert of the Milan-based Divertimento Ensemble.
His music has been commissioned by institutions such as Sagra Musicale Umbra, Ernst von Siemens Foundation, French Ministry of Culture, Banna Spinola Foundation, Radio France and has been performed in several Festivals, among them Nuova Consonanza (Rome), Audio Art Circus (Osaka), Musica (Strasbourg), Festival Novelum (Toulouse) Akademie der Künste Berlin, Music Today Seoul, Sagra Musicale Umbra (Perugia), Festival Time of Music, ZKM (Karlsruhe), Aujourd'hui Musiques (Perpignan), IMD Darmstadt (Darmstadt), Tzlil Meudcan (Tel Aviv), IRCAM, Cité de la Musique (Paris), International Gaudeamus Music Week (Amsterdam), Gaida Vilnius, Bang On a Can (New York), Culturscapes (Basel), Warsaw Autumn (Warsaw). His works have been performed by Ensemble Algoritmo, Duo Disecheis, Nieuw Ensemble, Ensemble Nikel, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Strasbourg Saxophone Quartett, Divertimento Ensemble, ASKO Ensemble, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Itinéraire, mdi ensemble, Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie, Accroche Note and others. His music is recorded by Max Research and Stradivarius labels. His works are published by Nuova Stradivarius, Suvini Zerboni and Casa Ricordi.
He is among the founders of the blog www.nuthing.eu focused on contemporary music. Since 2008 he teaches in Italian Conservatoires.
